About Social Workers Are Awesome

The Painted Porch Bookshop in Bastrop, Texas

I am Amanda L. Smith, LCSW—a social worker in lovely Waco, Texas—home of Baylor University, The Dr. Pepper Museum, the HGTV show Fixer Upper, and the Armstrong Browning Library.

I attended beautiful Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida where I earned an undergraduate degree in business management. I graduated with an MSW from Baylor University.

In 2015, my book was published: The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Wellness Planner: 365 Days of Healthy Living for Your Body, Mind, and Spirit. A few years later, The Borderline Personality Disorder Wellness Planner for Families was created.

Social Workers Are Awesome is a website designed to celebrate careers in social work, social work education, and the idea that professional self-care is an ethical issue. This site is dedicated to St. Louise de Marillac (the patron saint of social workers) and Ellen Gates Starr (the co-founder of Hull House).
